The Queen of Spades

A classical story, period costumes, but… On 10 February, there’ll be a mystical performance of The Queen of Spades at the In the Game Theatre. A must-see show!

The director lifts the veil of mystery from the origins of the three cards. There is a countess, but who was the count? It is no secret that Pushkin’s Queen of Spades was inspired by Prince Golitsyn’s story: he once recouped his losses at cards by taking the advice of his Great Aunt Natalya Golitsyna and betting on three cards specific. Golitsyna had learned the secret of these three cards from the Count de Saint-Germain himself.

The show artfully intertwines Romanticism, mysticism and realism. Herman decides to become rich at any cost but is he really willing to pay the price? The director looks at what price people pay for their choices: one side of the scales is piled with winnings, while the other holds love. What will the characters choose? What will people in the audience ultimately choose?
